No Regrets!!

Listen, I don’t want to talk smack about other people but it’s just us here, right?

I follow several disability related groups and pages and I have to tell you, there is a scary pattern that has emerged. I think it will translate well to anyone without a disability as well. I’m sure you’ve heard me say it before but in case you’re new around here I will repeat it:

WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING THAT HOLDS US BACK. Be it physical, mental, hereditary, environmental .. We are all dealing with some shit so I want to share because I think it might be helpful.

I regularly see posts with so much negativity. People who hate their ‘new’ body so much or are afraid of how the world will treat them that they refuse to leave the house. It’s really sad but also, I get it. I don’t agree with it. I think it’s an awful way to live, but I’ve been there. Maybe we all have in some way at one time or another.

What I think these people fail to realize is that it takes just as much energy to live in fear as it does to just go out and live.

Every day we wake up and have the choice to live however we choose. We make a million decisions a day. The biggest difference is whether we make them based on fear or cheer. (I couldn’t think of a better word and I love rhymes :-)

You can listen to the voice in your head. The one full of self doubt that convinces you not to take a chance or a risk -even the smallest one like going out in public. You can live in your comfort zone and trudge along and ‘wish’ you ‘could’. You can blame your past or surroundings and make excuses why you ‘can’t’. You can sit home and cry about how cruel the world is. Because you know what? Sometimes it is.

You can also listen to your heart. You can follow your dreams and whatever you desire -  no matter how big or small. Life is about taking a chance. Life is about risk. Life is about doing whatever it is that makes YOU happy.

Will you fail? Maybe. Will people laugh at you? Possibly. Will your loved ones call you crazy? Most likely. SO WHAT? At the end of the day it is YOUR LIFE and you are the only one who gets to choose how to live it. If you’re not, that’s no one else’s fault.

If you feel stuck, or chained to whatever you think is keeping you down, just remember:

YOU HOLD THE KEY.

You can unlock your own happiness. It will be hard. It might hurt. You might cry along the way, but win or lose, I promise:

YOU WILL NEVER REGRET TRYING.
